President William Ruto is facing intense criticism after allegations surfaced that his private helicopter was used to fly US content creator Ishowspeed on Sunday.

The ride reportedly ended Ishowspeed’s livestream from the top of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), giving fans a sweeping view of Nairobi city.

The claims were first raised by journalist Saddique Shaban on X, who suggested that taxpayers’ money may have indirectly funded the trip.

“And guess who is getting paid for hiring his chopper to this kid for a trip around town? William Ruto!” Shaban wrote.

He added that the AS350 B3 helicopter, registered 5Y-HNB and linked to Pro Flight Limited (K)—a company allegedly associated with Ruto—would receive millions of shillings for the ride.

Shaban’s post further accused the Tourism Ministry of “trading with the President’s private company, in a shameless display of state capture,” sparking a wave of criticism online.

Many Kenyans expressed anger over what they described as an unnecessary use of state resources to benefit a private interest, calling for accountability and transparency.

The incident has reignited debates over the ethical boundaries between public office and private business, with critics questioning whether the President’s private interests are being unfairly intertwined with government operations.

The controversy adds to mounting scrutiny over perceived overlaps between the President’s private ventures and official duties.
