Ganze MP Kazungu Tungule Praises Mitangani Secondary After 15 Students Qualify for University

Ganze Member of Parliament Kazungu Tungule has praised Mitangani Secondary School for producing strong results in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), highlighting the role of targeted scholarships in lifting bright but needy learners from rural Kilifi.

In a statement shared on Monday, the MP said he hosted seven former Mitangani students at his Ganze office, all of whom earned direct university entry. 

The group is part of 15 candidates from the school who qualified for university admission, including top performer Rebbeca Pendo Mlangulo from Forodhoyo village in Vitengeni, who scored an A minus.

Tungule said the students’ journey reflects the impact of early identification and sustained support. 

In 2021, he tasked education advocate Johnson Kahindi, popularly known as Wa Bamba, to scout top-performing but financially challenged learners for sponsorship through the Tungule Foundation. 

After the foundation reached capacity, the MP said Mitangani Secondary School principal, Mr Ouma, stepped in to absorb additional students under special needs-based scholarships.

“These seven are special to me. Each has a unique story,” Tungule said, crediting Wa Bamba’s scouting and the school’s accommodation of the learners for four years.

He added that well-wishers, alongside the foundation, supported the students throughout their studies.

The MP also underscored Mitangani’s overall performance, noting that the interior school—about 20 kilometres from Bamba—recorded one A minus, three B pluses, two B plains, six B minuses and three C pluses. 

He contrasted the results with outcomes from some schools in Kilifi, saying Mitangani’s performance stood out despite its remote location.

Tungule said the foundation will continue linking needy students to opportunities, framing the initiative as a model for expanding access to higher education in underserved areas.
