Businessman Oketch Salah has defended his recent statements about former ODM party leader Raila Odinga, following sharp criticism from the late leader’s daughter, Winnie Odinga.

On Tuesday night during an interview with Citizen TV’s Ivonne Okwara, Winnie Odinga questioned Salah’s credibility, dismissing his claims that he was present with her father until his death.

She described his statements as “a flat-out lie” and suggested that the businessman’s intentions were questionable.

Winnie further recommended that Salah be urgently taken to either Mathare Hospital or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for evaluation.

“I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him. A flat-out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death and you were not, and talking about things that did not occur is quite dangerous and makes me question his intentions,” Winnie Odinga said.

In response, Oketch Salah issued a statement on social media, asserting that he stands by his account of the moments he shared with Raila Odinga in his final days.

He said he had refrained from commenting previously out of respect for Migori-based Ambassador Ida Min Piny, known affectionately as Mama Ida.

“I watched last night’s interview on Citizen TV with Ivonne Okwara where Winnie spoke about me. Because of the respect I have for Her Excellency the Ambassador, Mama Ida Min Piny from Migori, I chose to remain quiet. That was a deliberate and personal decision,” Salah wrote.

He added, “However, some of what was said needs clarity. I stand by everything I have said about my last moments with Baba. Those moments were real, painful, and lived. I will respond in an interview soon.”

The exchange highlights ongoing sensitivities surrounding Raila Odinga’s legacy, with family members and associates closely monitoring narratives about the former leader’s final days.

Salah’s promise of a forthcoming interview suggests the debate over his role and claims is likely to continue in public discourse.
