The Ministry of Education has announced that all learners transitioning to Grade 10 will be admitted to their assigned public schools, even if they do not yet have senior school uniforms or have not paid school fees.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said the directive follows instructions from President Ruto, aimed at ensuring no student is denied access to senior secondary education due to financial or uniform challenges.
According to the statement released on X, senior school principals are required to:
Admit all learners placed in their institutions immediately.
Allow students to report in their junior school uniforms if senior school uniforms are unavailable.
Enroll learners without insisting on fee payment, optimizing the use of capitation funds disbursed earlier this month while providing flexibility for household contributions.
They are to work with Sub-County Directors of Education and National Government Administration Officers to track and ensure prompt admission.
The Ministry reminded parents and guardians that, under Sections 31, 32, and 34(5) of the Basic Education Act, 2013, failing to present children for admission or denying them access to public schools is an offence.
Non-compliance should be reported to the nearest Education or National Government Administration Office for appropriate action.
The move is expected to smooth the transition for thousands of students nationwide, ensuring uninterrupted access to senior secondary education and promoting inclusivity in Kenya’s education system.
