Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned that Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi could soon face criminal charges following the demolition of business premises linked to him in Nairobi, terming the incident part of a wider political scheme.
In remarks issued after the Tuesday night demolitions near Nyayo Stadium, Gachagua claimed the destruction of the properties was designed to prepare the ground for legal action against the governor.
He alleged that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were being positioned to pursue charges based on what he described as unfounded economic allegations.
Gachagua traced the alleged plan to a meeting held on January 12 at Sagana State Lodge, where Members of Parliament from Kiambu County reportedly expressed frustration over Governor Wamatangi’s political influence and the growing presence of the DCP Party in the Mount Kenya region.
According to him, the lawmakers demanded firm action against the governor as a condition for continued political support.
He claimed President William Ruto initially cautioned against taking drastic measures, noting the political risks involved.
The former deputy president warned that the developments signaled an escalation of political confrontation, including possible arrests and restrictions on political activity in Kiambu.
Gachagua called on Kenyans to remain steadfast and not succumb to intimidation. He also expressed solidarity with Governor Wamatangi, urging him to stay focused on serving Kiambu residents despite the political pressure.
