The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has signalled a major shift in Kenya’s political landscape after its National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to pursue a formal coalition agreement with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement released after the meeting, the party said the NEC, its highest decision-making organ, reviewed the status of the ongoing political partnership between UDA, under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, and ODM.
To advance this process, the NEC mandated President Ruto to establish a clear mechanism for structured engagement with ODM, aimed at guiding dialogue, coordination, and negotiations between the two parties.
UDA also noted a parallel move by ODM, whose Central Management Committee recently resolved to initiate structured talks with UDA.
According to the statement, both parties share the objective of strengthening their current working relationship and developing a coalition agreement in preparation for the 2027 polls.
Beyond coalition politics, the NEC reviewed internal party matters, including reports from the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Elections and Nominations Disputes Resolution Committee (ENDRC) on the recently concluded grassroots elections.
The committee acknowledged the progress made during the exercise but raised concern over polling centres where elections were not held or concluded.
After completing that phase, the NEB was further instructed to organise ward-level elections nationwide within another 30-day period.
UDA said the resolutions reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy while repositioning itself strategically as Kenya’s political realignments take shape ahead of the next general election.
