Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed what he calls a “shocking political plot” in Kiambu County, claiming that Members of Parliament pressured President William Ruto to order the demolition of Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s business premises near Nyayo Stadium.

Speaking on Wednesday, Gachagua said the move was part of a coordinated effort by Kiambu MPs to curb the rising popularity of Wamatangi and to undermine the DCP Party’s growth in Mount Kenya.

He alleged that during a January 12 meeting at Sagana State Lodge, the MPs presented two key demands to Ruto: immediate demolition of Wamatangi’s businesses and criminal charges against the governor, and active suppression of DCP meetings in Kiambu using state operatives and plainclothes police.

“The MPs cornered the president, insisting that instructions be given to the Interior Ministry,” Gachagua said.

He claimed Ruto initially resisted, warning that such measures could backfire, but eventually gave in under pressure.

The demolition was carried out late Tuesday night, with hundreds of police officers overseeing the operation, which also affected vehicles belonging to Wamatangi’s customers.

Gachagua condemned the raid, calling it an act of intimidation unlikely to succeed.

“The mountain has already made its decision. Betrayal has no remedy in the mountain,” he said, warning that political persecution would only strengthen the community’s resolve ahead of the 2027 elections.

He extended his support to Governor Wamatangi, urging him to stay focused and continue serving Kiambu residents despite the pressure.

“The darkest hour is just before dawn,” Gachagua said, appealing to Kenyans not to be cowed by fear.

The Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are reportedly reviewing possible charges against Wamatangi in connection with the incident.
