Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has accused officials in a top government office of interfering in law enforcement after Nairobi MCA Robert Alai allegedly threatened Governor Babu Owino with a firearm.

According to Abdullahi, the incident occurred two weeks ago at Cedars Restaurant along Lenana Road, where Alai reportedly drew a gun. Police on the scene disarmed him, but no arrest or charges have been reported.

Abdullahi claimed that someone in the Office of the President instructed police not to touch Alai, citing the lawmaker’s social media influence as “useful to the broad-based government.”

The senior counsel contrasted this with a separate case in Kilifi, where two Turkish businessmen involved in an altercation with an ODM politician were immediately arrested and charged with financing terrorism.

Abdullahi described the situation as “convenient” and biased, pointing to a selective application of the law that disproportionately affects ordinary citizens and foreigners, while sparing powerful figures.

Abdullahi called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Benson Igonga, to explain the apparent discrepancy in handling these cases.

“Imagine if a small, poor man from rural Kenya could go scot-free when he breaks the law. Who can touch the mighty and powerful in this country?” he asked.

The senior counsel also highlighted longstanding concerns about corruption and impunity, referencing former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s statement that Kenya loses Sh2 billion daily to government officials.

He warned that incidents like these underscore Kenya’s persistent law and order challenges and the urgent need for impartial enforcement to restore public trust.
