Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has shocked the political scene, hinting that her ambitions stretch far beyond her current term ending in 2027.
In a candid chat with the Daily Nation on Tuesday, Waiguru didn’t hold back.
She spoke of her meteoric rise from a young government advisor in her 30s to Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning, where she launched the iconic Huduma programme that touched millions of Kenyans.
“I have been fortunate to serve in key responsibilities in Kenya. These experiences have enhanced my capacity for public leadership, and I believe there is still fuel in the tank for me to serve Kenya in other capacities,” she said, leaving political pundits guessing what’s next.
Elected governor in her 40s and re-elected in 2022, Waiguru has not only focused on development projects and county-wide reforms but also built a reputation as a savvy and ambitious politician.
Her two-year stint as Chair of the Council of Governors added more fire to her political credentials.
Now, the buzz is growing. Waiguru hinted she could step onto the national stage, possibly eyeing high-profile roles in Kenya’s political landscape after 2027.
“I intend to remain active in politics and governance and will, therefore, continue serving in any suitable position beyond 2027,” she revealed, in words that have already sent ripples across Nairobi corridors of power.
For Kenyans watching closely, Waiguru’s declaration is more than a statement—it’s a teaser for a political thriller that could reshape the country’s leadership map.
Will she aim for a ministerial seat, a national leadership position, or even the presidency? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Anne Waiguru is far from done.
The political arena in Kenya just got hotter, and Waiguru is clearly ready to play her next big move.
