Wahome Thuku Moves to Quell Speculation Over DCP Links as 2027 Contest Takes Shape

Othaya parliamentary hopeful Wahome Thuku has issued a detailed clarification on his relationship with the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), dismissing claims that he has fallen out with the outfit.

His explanation comes as political alignments intensify across Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election, where party loyalties remain fluid and aspirants are under increasing public scrutiny.

In a statement posted on his social media platforms, Thuku said he had not disagreed with the party leadership at any point.

He noted that his last conversation with the DCP leader occurred during the burial of former opposition chief Raila Odinga, adding that no tensions were raised during that encounter.

The lawyer emphasized that reports alleging internal conflict were inaccurate.

Thuku further clarified the extent of his engagement with the party, stating that he has never registered as a DCP member.

According to him, his only contribution to the party was a KSh200 fee paid to attend a meeting in Nyeri, which he described as a standard charge for participants.

He stressed that no official had ever demanded money from him or offered preferential treatment.

The Othaya aspirant said he had taken part in only three DCP-related activities since the party began organizing in the region: its official launch at the headquarters and two consultative meetings for Nyeri-based aspirants.

He insisted that he had not sought any party position or nomination and acknowledged that several other contenders were already competing for the DCP ticket in Othaya.

Thuku also addressed ideological differences within the broader opposition landscape.

He stated his preference for backing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in the presidential race, while DCP officials are leaning toward Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

He admitted that the conflicting preferences present a dilemma but expressed optimism that coalition negotiations in the coming months could produce a unified candidate.

As Mt Kenya constituencies continue to draw national attention due to their electoral weight, aspirants like Thuku are increasingly issuing public clarifications to avoid misinterpretations that could affect support.

The region has historically played a decisive role in determining coalition dynamics, making early positioning crucial for candidates.

Thuku asserted that he remains free to comment on national political affairs without intimidation.
