Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi joined a large gathering of leaders and community members on Tuesday to attend the burial of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo at Lumakhanda grounds in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.
The event drew prominent political figures, reflecting Jirongo’s long-standing influence in Kenyan politics.
In a statement posted on X, Sudi described Jirongo as a “notable figure” whose contributions in both politics and business had left a lasting impact.
“We joined mourners at Lumakanda grounds for the burial of the late former Lugari MP Hon. Cyrus Jirongo. Tributes and reflections filled the occasion as we bid farewell to a notable figure,” Sudi said.
He extended condolences to Jirongo’s family and fellow mourners, noting their shared friendship and professional ties.
The funeral was attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetangula, among other leaders.
Their presence underscored Jirongo’s standing across party lines, particularly in Western Kenya where he had served as an MP and built a strong political base.
Cyrus Jirongo first rose to national prominence during his tenure in the National Assembly, where he represented Lugari Constituency.
Over the years, he became known for his entrepreneurial ventures alongside his political work, influencing both local governance and community development initiatives in Kakamega County.
Sudi’s tribute highlighted the personal and professional relationships Jirongo maintained with colleagues across the political spectrum.
“Leaders from various walks of life came to pay their last respects to Jirongo. Rest in eternal peace, my good friend,” Sudi added.
