Odoyo Owidi Hits Out at Orengo’s Opposition-Only Politics: Retire If You Don't Want to Support Ruto

Former chair of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, Odoyo Owidi, has taken a swipe at Siaya Governor James Orengo, questioning his ability to support the government after decades in opposition.

In a post on X on Monday, Owidi argued that Orengo’s political experience is rooted almost entirely in opposition politics, making it difficult for him to defend or campaign for government initiatives.

“James Orengo has spent fifty years in politics, operating primarily from the opposition benches. He is unfamiliar with any form of politics other than that of opposition. Consequently, it will be challenging for him to campaign effectively while supporting the government,” Owidi said.

Owidi likened Orengo’s approach to using a single tool for every problem.

“Orengo possesses only the tools of opposition. To him, every problem is a mistake of the national government—much like a carpenter who would suggest using a hammer to swat a mosquito,” he added.

The message comes as opposition leaders continue to navigate their stance towards President William Ruto’s administration.

While some ODM figures engage selectively with the government, Orengo has remained vocal in his criticism of national policies.

Owidi ended with a clear message to the Siaya governor: consider retiring from politics.

“My advice to Governor James Orengo is to retire from politics rather than raising his voice with insincere rallying cries,” he said.
