Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has announced the passing of his elder brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula, describing the loss as deeply painful yet expressing gratitude for his life.
In a statement shared on X two days ago, Wanyonyi said, “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my elder brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang'ula. As a family, it is painful and deeply unsettling, but we remain grateful to God for the gift of his life.”
Wanyonyi reflected on his brother’s character, noting that he lived a life of courage, honour, and humility.
“You fought your battles with courage, you ran your race with honour, and you leave behind a legacy that will continue to guide us. May your soul find everlasting peace until we meet again,” he said.
Describing their close bond, the MP added that Mukhwana was not only a brother but also a family leader and a consistent supporter throughout his political career.
“James Mukhwana Wetang’ula, or as we fondly called him, Mukhwana, was a humble man never found in any controversy. He was a peacemaker and a darling to all. He was there for me and my family always,” Wanyonyi wrote.
He highlighted Mukhwana’s role during his campaigns, saying his brother remained a constant presence, returning home only to cast his vote in Bungoma.
“No other family member supported me the way he did. Mukhwana was my brother and my best friend. I have lost a brother and a friend,” he added.
The late Mukhwana Wetang’ula is remembered by his family for his humility, commitment to peace, and dedication to supporting his siblings.

@Hon. Tim Wanyonyi: Pole sana bro.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, we have lost a luminary. Mwalimu James was a down-to-earth individual. I first met James when I joined ST. Mary's Kibabii Boys as a Mathematics/Physics Teacher in the late 1980s and we bonded very well, particularly when I learnt that he was "Omwiwama Mubuya" - my Clan!
James and the late Mwalimu Weloba would spectate my playing of Chess with the late Mwalimu Bwisa for hours at the latter's home (etuuti)!
James' humility will forever be embedded in my mind.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
