Elite 20 Para Battalion Steals Show as KDF Troops the Colour on Jamhuri Day

The Kenya Defence Forces marked Jamhuri Day on Friday with a ceremonial display led by the 20 Para Battalion, which Trooped the Colour during national celebrations in Nairobi.

In a statement shared on X, the KDF said the parade symbolised loyalty, service, and the commitment of Kenyan soldiers to protect the nation’s sovereignty.

The Trooping the Colour ceremony is traditionally conducted to honour a unit’s flag, representing its history and collective service.

In Kenya, the ritual forms a central part of national celebrations and underscores the military’s role in safeguarding peace.

This year’s ceremony placed the 20 Para Battalion at the forefront as the country commemorated 62 years of independence.

In its message, the KDF praised the battalion for displaying precision and discipline during the parade.

“Their precision and dedication reflect the integrity and patriotism of the Kenya Defence Forces,” the statement read.

The military further applauded all service members for their continued sacrifice in defending Kenya’s territorial integrity.

Jamhuri Day remains one of the most significant events on the national calendar, marking both self-governance in 1963 and the declaration of the Republic in 1964.

The military parade is often a key highlight, attracting public interest due to its elaborate formations and ceremonial significance.

Security agencies traditionally use the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to national stability, especially amid emerging security challenges in the region.

This year’s celebrations continued that tradition, with the KDF emphasising unity, resilience, and national pride.

The statement concluded with a tribute to all serving and retired soldiers, noting their contribution to maintaining peace within Kenya and in regional operations.
