City lawyer Wahome Thuku has warned the bus driver involved in the crash that killed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo to remain silent until properly represented.

Jirongo died on Sunday morning along the Kakamega–Webuye highway after the bus he was traveling in veered off the road and overturned.

The accident shocked residents and sparked a high-profile investigation.

Thuku said driver Tyrus Kamau should only answer questions in the presence of a lawyer.

“He must not make any statements to the police or the media,” Thuku said, emphasizing that the Constitution protects his right to remain silent and not incriminate himself.

The lawyer also urged investigators to rely on objective evidence, including CCTV footage showing the last moments of Jirongo, instead of statements made without legal guidance.

The DCI confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with interviews and evidence collection underway.
