Newly released CCTV footage has shed light on the tragic events leading to the death of former politician Hon. Cyrus Jirongo.
The recordings, obtained by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detail the critical seconds before the collision that claimed his life.
According to the footage, Jirongo’s vehicle entered a Nairobi-bound petrol station at 2:18:40am but did not stop to refuel. Less than half a minute later, at 2:19:10am, his car briefly halted at the station’s exit.
At 2:19:19am, Jirongo made a right turn, heading back towards Nairobi.
Just six seconds later, at 2:19:25am, the CCTV captured a PSV bus crashing into Jirongo’s vehicle.
The DCI confirmed the timing and sequence of events, emphasizing that the footage provides a clear timeline of the incident.
Authorities are using the CCTV evidence to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the actions of the PSV driver.
The footage forms a critical part of ongoing inquiries into the accident that shocked Nairobi and sparked nationwide discussion on road safety and public transport regulation.
