Deaths on Highways

The Daily Nation leads with concern over a sharp rise in road fatalities as the festive season approaches.

The paper reports that more people have been killed in road crashes this year compared to the same period last year, raising alarm among safety advocates.

The publication warns that the situation could worsen in the coming days as holiday travel intensifies across the country.

With increased movement on major highways, authorities are under scrutiny for failing to consistently enforce traffic regulations.

In a related story, the Nation revisits the final moments of former minister and businessman Cyrus Jirongo before the crash that claimed his life.

The paper reports that minutes before the accident, Jirongo had dropped off a friend at a hotel in Naivasha.

He later drove into a petrol station before resuming his journey, which ended in the fatal crash along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.

The incident has renewed public debate on road safety and driver responsibility on Kenya’s busiest roads.
