Senate Speaker Moses Wetangula has extended his condolences to the Odinga family following the death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In his statement, Wetangula said: “To the Odinga family, please accept my sincerest condolences … during this incredibly painful time as you mourn the passing of your sister Beryl Odinga.”
He added that he knows the family is still coming to terms with Raila’s death and expressed hope that Beryl’s memory “be a source of comfort and inspiration.”
Beryl Achieng died on 25 November 2025. Her sister, Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, confirmed the news, saying the family is “deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives.”
She expressed faith that Beryl is “safe in the Lord’s arms” and thanked those who shared in the family’s grief.
Her passing comes barely a month after the death of her brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died on 15 October 2025. Beryl was admitted at the Nairobi West Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.
Beryl led a low-profile life despite her family’s public prominence.
She was a trained urban planner, and during her career, she worked in Zimbabwe where she held leadership positions.
In later years, she chaired the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, a role in which she contributed to public service and utility reforms.
Several Kenyan leaders have expressed their sympathy.
President William Ruto described Beryl as a “trailblazer” and “great intellectual.”
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also issued condolences, praising her contributions and the strength of her character.
Her body was moved from the hospital to Lee Funeral Home, as family and close friends began to make funeral arrangements. The Odinga family has not yet released a full schedule for the final rites.
