A new survey by Mizani Africa suggests that Vihiga County remains politically unsettled, with undecided voters nearly equalling the support of the current front-runner.

According to the poll, President William Ruto leads with 34.5 percent, while 34.1 percent of respondents said they had not chosen any candidate.

The findings place former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in second position with 14.5 percent, followed by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 11.3 percent.

Mizani Africa released the results through a public statement on X, noting that the county’s electorate is showing significant hesitation despite early political activity across the country.

Vihiga has historically leaned toward opposition coalitions, including the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and formations aligned with Raila Odinga.

The sharp rise in undecided voters signals a possible shift in local political behaviour, with parties expected to intensify community-level engagement as the national campaign season approaches.

In its statement, Mizani Africa said the numbers illustrate “a highly fluid” political environment, with no candidate commanding a decisive advantage.

The pollster also pointed to the influence of coalition politics and messaging, indicating that future rallies and alliances may determine how the undecided bloc ultimately votes.

Matiang’i’s placement in second position highlights his continued relevance in western Kenya, a region where he has maintained visibility since leaving government.

Kalonzo’s share, while modest, reflects his persistent support base among voters who have backed Azimio-affiliated candidates in recent cycles.

Both leaders could see their numbers shift depending on national-level endorsements and party positioning.

The survey did not provide detailed demographic data or methodology, but Mizani Africa stated that the figures represent current public sentiment within the county.

Political parties are expected to ramp up mobilisation in Vihiga, especially as coalition talks gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.

Mizani Africa indicated that additional county-level polls will be released in the coming months to track changing political attitudes.

The firm noted that Vihiga remains one of the most competitive counties, with the undecided group likely to determine the final outcome once campaigns intensify.
