Woman Arrested at JKIA After Attempt to Smuggle Cocaine to Dubai

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 41-year-old woman at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for attempting to smuggle cocaine to Dubai.

According to a statement from the DCI, the suspect, identified as Anna Nekesa Kisaka, was intercepted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit just minutes before her flight’s departure.

Investigators say Nekesa had concealed several pellets of cocaine inside her body in an attempt to evade airport security.

Her plan, however, was foiled after detectives flagged her for an additional screening based on intelligence and suspicion.

Scans conducted during the inspection confirmed that she was carrying the narcotics internally.

Nekesa was immediately placed under medical supervision, where she later excreted three pellets of cocaine, confirming the detectives’ suspicions.

The DCI said her actions put her life in serious danger due to the high risk of the pellets rupturing inside her body.

She is currently in custody as investigators complete their probe before she is arraigned in court.

The DCI described her failed smuggling attempt as a “desperate gamble” that ended before it could take off.

Kenyan authorities have in recent years intensified surveillance at major airports to curb drug trafficking, with several arrests made involving passengers using similar internal concealment methods.

The Anti-Narcotics Unit continues to work with international partners to dismantle networks using Kenya as a transit point for narcotics bound for Asia and the Middle East.

The DCI warned that drug trafficking remains a serious offense with severe legal consequences and urged travellers to avoid being lured into such dangerous activities.
