Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has voiced hesitation in issuing public condolences following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a post on X, the legislator described his mixed emotions and explained why he has not yet shared a formal eulogy.
Salasya recounted that his day began listening to messages from Nigerian preacher Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away at 80.
Shortly after, he received news of Odinga’s death, also at the same age, which left him shocked.
He described the coincidence as striking and said it contributed to his pause before responding publicly.
The MP also reflected on recent observations of billboards in Mombasa marking the 20th anniversary of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Salasya said the significance of the event was unclear to him, despite noticing the dates, and noted that his questions about the matter remained unanswered.
This uncertainty, he added, has influenced his reluctance to offer condolences.
“Today in the morning I wake up listening to messages of Dr Uma Ukpai, a powerful preacher in Nigeria, who had just rested at 80 years today and posted his prophetic message of 30 years. Little did I just know I will get another sad news of Baba at 80 years old today.
"Yesterday I asked my security as I was coming to my office, was this 20th anniversary of ODM happened because my eyes looked at billboard saw the dates but unfortunately the very hyped event in Mombasa didn’t come up clearly. I asked so many questions with no answers and am still not convinced to write my message of condolences,” Salasya wrote.
