Strive Masiyiwa, the Zimbabwean billionaire philanthropist and founder of Econet Group, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Masiyiwa described Odinga as a friend and brother of almost 30 years, highlighting the profound personal loss he feels.
Masiyiwa recounted their enduring friendship, stating that they often addressed each other as "elder brother" and maintained close communication on matters concerning Africa.
He emphasized Odinga's unwavering courage, particularly during the struggle against authoritarian rule in Kenya, which led to his imprisonment.
"People have no idea just how courageous he was," Masiyiwa noted.
The tribute also acknowledged Odinga's dedication to Pan-Africanism, with Masiyiwa praising his role as one of the movement's most ardent proponents.
He expressed gratitude to Odinga's family, particularly his wife, Mama Ida Odinga, for sharing him with Kenya and Africa.
Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80, was a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, having served as Prime Minister and run for president five times.
