Siaya Governor James Orengo Reassures Kenyans: Raila Odinga in Good Health

Siaya Governor James Orengo has moved to end speculation surrounding the health of ODM leader Raila Odinga, insisting that the veteran opposition figure is in perfect condition.

Appearing on NTV’s morning show on Wednesday, Orengo said there was no truth in claims circulating on social media that Raila had fallen ill.

He described the rumours as unfounded and intended to cause unnecessary panic among the former prime minister’s supporters.

“Raila Odinga is well. I know he’s well. When he gets sick, he talks about it very openly. There’s nothing to hide," the Siaya governor said.

The governor, a close ally of the Azimio la Umoja leader, said those spreading alarm online were doing so out of political mischief. He urged Kenyans to treat such reports with skepticism and instead rely on official communication from Raila’s team.

In recent days, Raila’s absence from public events had sparked speculation about his health, prompting various leaders and close associates to come out and clarify the situation.

Earlier this week, Raila’s communications director Philip Etale also confirmed that the ODM boss was away on private engagements and was “jovial and healthy.”

Orengo’s reassurance adds weight to similar statements made by other ODM officials, who say Raila remains actively involved in party affairs despite keeping a low public profile.

“He’s in good health and continues to guide the movement,” Orengo affirmed, adding that Kenyans should focus on more important national issues rather than rumours.

The statement is expected to calm growing anxiety among Raila’s supporters, as the veteran politician continues to play a key role in shaping Kenya’s opposition politics.
