Raila’s Legacy Remembered: Former Personal Aide Reflects on 18 Years of Service

Former Personal Aide to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, on Friday shared a moving tribute following his final farewell to the veteran Kenyan leader, whom he described as a mentor, father figure, and close comrade. 

Jakakimba, who served Odinga for nearly 18 years, recounted the deep bond that shaped both his personal and professional life.

In a post on X, Jakakimba described seeing Odinga’s body as “so peaceful,” reflecting on the decades-long commitment to serving under him. 

He highlighted the mentorship and trust that developed over the years, noting that the experience contributed significantly to his growth in Kenya’s leadership space.

“From the opportunity you entrusted to me as your Personal Aide for close to 18 years, I confess I know no other human being on the African continent who came close to you as the First Among Equals on the quest for a freer and more equal continent, outside Nelson Mandela,” Jakakimba wrote.

He praised Odinga’s legacy in advancing the historical quest for a better Kenya, emphasizing the personal sacrifices and leadership the veteran politician displayed throughout his life. 

Jakakimba described Odinga as a dependable father and mentor, expressing hope that he rests in peace as he embarks on his “final journey to Dala.

Jakakimba’s tribute comes amid a wave of mourning across Kenya and the broader East African region, as political leaders, colleagues, and citizens reflect on Odinga’s contributions to democracy, governance, and social equality. 

Many have taken to social media and public forums to share memories and express gratitude for Odinga’s decades-long service to the nation.
