Siaya County Senator Oburu Oginga has dismissed reports suggesting that the late Raila Odinga’s burial site was changed from his mother’s grave to his father’s.
Speaking to the press, Oburu clarified that Raila’s will explicitly stated he wished to be laid to rest alongside both his parents.
“I would like to clarify something that has been in the press. The reports claiming that Raila wanted to be buried next to his mother but we have decided to bury him next to his father are false. I have seen the will and it clearly states that he would like to be buried in the place where his mother and father are buried," Oburu said.
The clarification comes amid speculation following reports that family members had disagreed over the specific burial spot within the Odinga family home in Bondo.
Oburu, who is Raila’s elder brother, assured the public that the family is united in honoring Raila’s wishes as clearly outlined in his will.
Preparations for the burial of the late ODM leader have been ongoing in Bondo, with security and logistical arrangements already in place.
Several national and international leaders are expected to attend the ceremony, which will take place at the Odinga family home where Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his wife Mary Ajuma Odinga were laid to rest.
Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s longtime opposition leader, passed away recently after decades of political service that shaped Kenya’s democratic journey.
His final resting place beside his parents symbolizes both family unity and the continuation of a historic political legacy deeply rooted in the Odinga family.
