National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Sunday presented Dr. Ida Odinga with a bound Hansard detailing the late Raila Odinga’s parliamentary record during his burial ceremony in Bondo, Siaya County.
Wetangula said the Hansard was Parliament’s way of honoring Raila’s decades of service and his significant role in shaping Kenya’s democracy.
The record captures his contributions as Lang’ata Member of Parliament, opposition leader, and later as the country’s second Prime Minister.
“On behalf of the National Assembly, I conveyed our collective condolences and paid tribute to Baba’s family, acknowledging his invaluable service in the House during his tenure as Lang’ata MP and later as Prime Minister,” Wetangula said in a post shared on X.
He added that the Hansard documents Raila’s passionate debates, motions, bills, and petitions on governance, as well as his submissions during the historic Prime Minister’s Question Time.
Wetangula described the document as a lasting record of Raila’s voice and ideas in Parliament.
Reflecting on Raila’s influence, Wetangula quoted Tanzanian writer Shaban bin Robert’s Kusadikika, saying nations often fail to celebrate their heroes until they are gone.
“At moments when our country faced great peril, Raila stepped forward to save the nation from crisis. Kenya will indeed be poorer without Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” he noted.
Raila, who was laid to rest at his Bondo home, was remembered as a leader who dedicated his life to fighting for justice, democracy, and national unity.
His funeral brought together political rivals, religious leaders, and citizens from all walks of life in a rare moment of national reflection.
The symbolic gift from Parliament served as a reminder of Raila’s enduring legacy and the mark he left in Kenya’s legislative history—one that continues to inspire generations of leaders.
