Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has declared his political allegiance to President William Ruto, ending his long-standing loyalty to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The announcement came shortly after Raila’s burial in Bondo, Siaya County, an event that drew national attention and a wide range of political leaders.
In a post shared on X, Atandi stated that his decision was guided by the same principle of loyalty that he learned from Odinga.
“Baba taught me politics of loyalty. I’ve been intensely loyal to Baba Raila Odinga since I was born. I never crossed his path! Today I have transferred my political loyalty to President William Ruto,” he wrote.
Atandi has for years been one of Raila Odinga’s most vocal supporters in Parliament and online, often defending ODM’s positions and criticizing government policies.
His public shift of allegiance now positions him among a growing number of opposition politicians warming up to President Ruto’s administration.
The timing of his declaration, coming right after Raila’s burial, has fueled discussion within political circles about the future of ODM’s unity in Nyanza.
President Ruto has in recent months stepped up engagement with the region, promising development partnerships and reaching out to local leaders to work with his government.
