Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has launched a scathing attack on ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of sabotaging the party’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
The senator claimed Sifuna is working against the late Raila Odinga’s directive for ODM to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In a post shared on X, Cherargei alleged that all senior ODM leaders, except Sifuna, had agreed to work with the government following Raila’s instructions.
He said Sifuna’s continued defiance was a threat to the party’s stability and chances of forming the next government.
“The entire ODM leadership except Sifuna have confirmed that Baba Raila Odinga instructed them to stay and work with President Ruto’s administration under the broad-based government,” Cherargei wrote.
“The biggest threat to the growth of ODM to be in government or to form government in the future is Sifuna and company. By the end of this year 2025, he must be removed from ODM as the Secretary General. He is the mole of united opposition in ODM.”
Cherargei’s remarks follow Sifuna’s speech during Raila Odinga’s burial in Siaya, where he said the former prime minister wanted ODM to field its own presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
His statement appeared to challenge those within ODM who favor aligning with President Ruto’s administration.
Sifuna’s position has since deepened internal tensions, exposing divisions between leaders supporting cooperation with Ruto and those pushing for ODM’s independence.
