Moses Kuria Mocks Early Coalition Talks, Says Opposition ‘Still Doing Math’ for 2027

Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has poured cold water on the opposition’s renewed efforts to build a coalition more than two years before the 2027 General Election, arguing that the move lacks strategic sense.

In a post on X, Kuria remarked, “Historical fact: No winning coalition has ever been formed more than six months before a General Election. Some things I watch and just wonder. Is it a coalition or Lunatic Express? Hesabu ni muhimu.”

His comment appears to ridicule ongoing talks among key opposition figures who have begun exploring alliances to challenge President William Ruto in his bid for a second term.

Kuria suggested that the premature discussions expose a lack of political calculation and coordination.

He implied that alliances built too soon tend to collapse under the weight of competing interests before reaching the ballot.

Kuria, who has previously predicted that the 2027 presidential race could head into a runoff, drew parallels with past elections where late-stage negotiations and consensus among political heavyweights proved decisive.

By invoking the phrase “Lunatic Express,” Kuria cast the current opposition manoeuvres as disorganized and reactionary, suggesting that political arithmetic—not enthusiasm—will determine who stands a real chance against Ruto.
