Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has come out strongly to defend former Prime Minister Raila Odinga amid renewed speculation about his health, terming the claims as a desperate political tactic by a divided opposition.
Speaking through his official X account on Sunday, the senator assured Kenyans that Raila is in good condition and focused on matters of national importance.
“Baba Raila Odinga is well and in good health. Ignore the desperate, struggling, disunited opposition peddling cheap propaganda about his health. The priority to former Prime Minister Odinga is the success of the broad-based government in a stable, peaceful, united, and developed nation,” wrote Cherargei.
His remarks followed a statement by Raila’s spokesperson, Denis Onyango, who clarified that the ODM leader was on a private trip abroad, not in hospital as had been claimed by some online platforms.
Onyango further alleged that politicians linked to Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa were behind the misleading reports.
Cherargei’s intervention seemed aimed at cooling the political temperature that followed the viral rumours, which had flooded social media with unverified claims and doctored images.
He urged Kenyans to dismiss the speculation and focus on issues that promote national unity.
