Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua issued a scathing critique of Kenya’s economic mismanagement during a tour of Machakos County on Monday, blaming rampant corruption and money laundering for the nation’s woes.

Speaking to residents in Masii, Mwala Constituency, Gachagua warned that the diversion of public funds is driving ordinary Kenyans into hardship and threatening economic stability.

“The ongoing mismanagement of Kenya’s resources, coupled with the diversion of funds into corrupt practices and money laundering, continues to undermine our economy,” Gachagua stated in a post on X.

He highlighted the “ripple effect” of these actions, noting the suffering of citizens and the risk of a broader economic collapse.

His remarks align with recent reports, including Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, which ranked Kenya 121st out of 180 countries with a score of 32, signaling pervasive graft.

Despite the grim assessment, Gachagua offered hope, assuring Kenyans that the crisis is temporary.

“We are committed to restoring order, accountability, and prosperity to our nation,” he declared, pledging to collaborate with the United Opposition team to reverse the trend.
