Gachagua: My Impeachment Won’t Stop Me from Seeking The Presidency

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that his impeachment will not prevent him from seeking political office again.

Speaking during a youth engagement forum in Embu County on Thursday, Gachagua said his removal from office was orchestrated by legislators allegedly influenced by President William Ruto.

Gachagua dismissed the legitimacy of the impeachment process, claiming it did not represent the will of ordinary Kenyans.

“My impeachment does not prevent me from vying for leadership. I was not impeached by 7.2 million Kenyans, but by MPs and Senators bribed by President Ruto,” he stated.

The former deputy president accused the current administration of mismanaging the country, arguing that the economic and governance challenges Kenya is facing are proof that leadership should reflect the people’s will.

“Since my impeachment, the country has continued to struggle under mismanagement and poor governance, proving that the people’s voice, not political manipulation, must guide Kenya’s future,” he said.

Gachagua’s remarks come amid growing political tension within Kenya Kwanza, following his fallout with President Ruto in 2024.

His impeachment, which was supported by both the National Assembly and the Senate, marked a dramatic end to his tenure as deputy president after months of internal wrangles over power and loyalty.

Since leaving office, Gachagua has continued to position himself as a voice of the people  often criticizing government policies on the economy, taxation, and governance.
