Gachagua Condemns Seizure of Maa Land, Calls for Respect of Indigenous Rights

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned the alleged grabbing of land belonging to the Maasai community, describing it as a “grave insult” to their heritage and identity.

Speaking after touring Bisil in Kajiado Central on Friday, Gachagua emphasized that the Maa community’s ancestral land is deeply tied to their culture, livelihood, and spirituality, and should be protected from exploitation by the powerful.

“Ancestral land holds profound significance for the Maa community; it is more than just property, it is the heart of their identity, livelihood, cultural traditions, and spiritual beliefs. The forceful seizure of Maa land by those in power is a grave insult to the community and must be unequivocally condemned and exposed,” Gachagua wrote on X.

He called out individuals and entities with what he termed an “insatiable appetite for land,” saying their greed disregards justice and the principle of rightful ownership.

“Those with an insatiable appetite for land should be ashamed of their actions and disregard for rightful ownership of land,” he added.

Gachagua was accompanied by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, and other political figures.

The leaders were received by residents who welcomed them warmly as they addressed issues affecting the region.

The former deputy president reiterated his commitment to championing fairness and equality in resource distribution, adding that protecting indigenous land rights is central to building a just nation.

“Our unwavering commitment to building a better, more equitable country remains unstoppable,” he stated.
