ODM Turns 20th Anniversary into Nationwide Political Mobilization Drive, Raila Announces

ODM leader Raila Odinga has restructured the Orange Democratic Movement’s 20th anniversary celebrations into a month-long nationwide campaign, transforming what was to be a single grand event in Mombasa into a series of political activities across the country.

In a statement on X, Raila said the main celebrations will now take place in Mombasa between November 14 and 16, but the lead-up will feature county-based events designed to give ODM supporters across Kenya a direct role in the party’s milestone.

The calendar kicks off with a youth soccer tournament on October 9 and 10, followed by political rallies and grassroots engagements in several counties.

Kajiado will host its event on October 15, Turkana on October 26, Magarini in Kilifi on November 2, and Nairobi on November 9 before the climax at the coast.

Raila framed the shift not as a delay but as an opportunity to showcase ODM’s grassroots appeal ahead of the 2027 elections.

“ODM@20 is more than a celebration of our past. It is a festival of the people, a movement that brings Kenyans together to shape the future,” he said.

The ODM@20 celebrations mark two decades since the party was founded in 2005 and have now evolved into a political tour blending festivity with strategy, underscoring the party’s intent to remain a central force in Kenya’s political arena.
