“After 18 incredible years at Standard Group PLC, a chapter that has shaped my journey as a journalist, news anchor, and editor, I am stepping into a new season,” she said in a statement shared on Friday.
During her time at Standard Group, Kananu rose through the ranks to become a leading voice in Kenyan journalism.
Her reporting, news anchoring, and editorial leadership earned her respect across the industry, with colleagues and viewers alike lauding her dedication, poise, and professionalism.

“These years have been filled with lessons, growth, challenges, and friendships I will forever treasure. I am deeply grateful to colleagues, mentors, and friends who have walked this path with me,” she noted.
Although she is stepping away from the newsroom, Kananu affirmed her continued commitment to the profession through her role in the Kenya Editors Guild, where she serves as vice president.
