Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has ignited a heated political storm after boldly declaring that President William Ruto’s first three years in power outshine the records of Kenya’s past leaders.
In a statement posted on X, Kaluma sensationally ranked Ruto above Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, insisting that the Head of State enjoys more popularity and has performed far better than all his predecessors at a similar stage.
“Ruto at three years is far better and more popular than Jomo Kenyatta at 3, Moi at 3, Kibaki at 3 and Uhuru at 3,” Kaluma wrote.
The legislator backed his claims with a fiery historical rundown.
He argued that Jomo Kenyatta’s government was riddled with political sackings and power struggles, Moi was haunted by the 1982 coup attempt, Kibaki was crippled by political betrayals and a failed referendum, while Uhuru’s years were clouded by mega scandals and heavy borrowing.
Kaluma went further, downplaying Kibaki’s legacy by crediting Raila Odinga with most of the successes during that period.
On Uhuru, he accused the regime of economic blunders and corruption, including the infamous NYS and COVID-19 scandals.
The remarks have lit up debate online, with supporters of Ruto celebrating the comparison while critics dismiss Kaluma’s assessment as misplaced flattery.
With the high cost of living and tough economic times still biting Kenyans, many are questioning whether Ruto truly deserves such high praise.
