Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has thrown his hat into the ring for the Bungoma governorship in 2027, promising to protect residents from what he calls opportunists and political profiteers.
In a bold statement shared on X, the outspoken lawmaker told Bungoma residents that his decision to run was not about personal ambition but about charting a fresh, people-driven future for the county.
“Dear residents of Bungoma, my commitment lies not in personal ambition but in the collective prosperity of our cherished community,” Barasa wrote, vowing to fight off divisive leaders and cartels.
The MP insisted that his campaign will rise from the grassroots and not from backroom political deals.
“Brokers and political schemers may hold sway on paper, but on the ground, the indomitable will of the people prevails, surpassed only by divine authority,” he added.
Barasa’s early declaration sets the stage for a bruising political battle in Bungoma, a county where shifting loyalties have decided past elections.
His close ties to President William Ruto are expected to shape his campaign, but he will likely face stiff opposition from established local figures and rival parties keen on capturing the county’s top seat.
