Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has fired back at former President Uhuru Kenyatta following his sharp critique of the current government during Friday’s National Delegates Conference.
Uhuru had accused President William Ruto’s administration of eroding the gains achieved under Jubilee.
Cherargei, who once served in the Jubilee Party, dismissed the remarks as unfair, insisting that the problems now facing the country were inherited from Uhuru’s tenure.
“As a former Jubilee member, I am disappointed that Uhuru chooses to lecture others when the country he left behind was full of unresolved issues,” Cherargei said.
The senator listed a series of challenges he claims were bequeathed to the current administration, including rampant corruption, a national debt topping 9 trillion shillings, uneven development, extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, a troubled CBC education system, and worsening food insecurity.
“These are heavy burdens on both the government and ordinary Kenyans,” Cherargei added.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Cherargei hinted at a repeat of past political battles, suggesting that Uhuru could once again become a central figure challenging the ruling party.
“It looks like the 2027 General Elections may mirror the 2022 race, with Uhuru as the main opponent,” he warned.
