Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has demanded the immediate deployment of police officers to a newly constructed police post in Ngochi and Ngeteti, accusing senior security officials of deliberately frustrating the facility's operationalisation.
Wamuchomba claimed officers failed to attend a planned handover ceremony despite prior communication, leaving the police post without personnel to provide security services to residents.
The MP said residents of Ngochi and Ngeteti first requested the establishment of a police post in 2023 through public participation under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
According to Wamuchomba, NG-CDF subsequently secured funding and oversaw the construction of a modern police post at Ngeteti. She added that the police initially declined to take over the facility, citing the absence of accommodation for officers and a public toilet.
"The police requested NG-CDF to have their accommodation provided. We have done beautiful quarters for them," Wamuchomba said.
She claimed that after the accommodation facilities were completed, arrangements were made for the police to formally take over the post.
"Yesterday, we expected the police to take over the running of the police post after adequate communication was done. They refused to appear for handing over, citing lack of orders from above," she said.
Wamuchomba questioned who had issued the alleged instructions, claiming that the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) in Githunguri did not attend the handover and allegedly warned junior officers against participating.
"The OCPD Githunguri disappeared and warned his juniors not to appear for the handing over. The Area DCC was speechless. All junior police were in hiding because they were warned not to accept to take over the post," she alleged.
The legislator further alleged that the move was connected to her criticism of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
She said she had tried to support the government but questioned what she described as disrespect from government officials towards elected leaders.
Wamuchomba insisted that residents should not be forced to seek political intervention before receiving basic security services.
"So the people of Ngochi and Ngeteti who desperately need a police post with services must beg Murkomen to deploy policemen?" she posed.
The MP warned that she would continue pressing for the deployment of officers, saying she would meet residents on the ground the following week.
"We demand police deployment in Ngochi police post in Githunguri. The boss is my voter," Wamuchomba said.
Her allegations come amid continued political tensions between sections of the Kenya Kwanza administration and leaders who have publicly criticised the government's policies and senior officials.
