President William Ruto has condoled with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, describing the loss as a painful moment for the Tanzanian leader, her family and the country.
In a message issued on Monday, September 7, Ruto said he had received with deep sorrow news of Ameir’s death and conveyed his condolences to President Samia on behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, First Lady Rachel Ruto, his family and himself.
“President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son,” Ruto said.
Ameir’s death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi, who said the former First Gentleman died at about 8 a.m. at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart-related condition. Funeral arrangements were subsequently announced to be underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
Ruto further assured Tanzania of Kenya’s solidarity during the period of mourning, stressing the close ties between the neighbouring East African countries.
“Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters in this moment of grief,” he said.
The Kenyan President also prayed for strength and comfort for the Tanzanian leader and her family as they come to terms with the loss.
“May Almighty God comfort President Samia and her family, give them strength through this difficult time, and grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest,” Ruto said.
