Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has waded into the controversy surrounding the violence that disrupted Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s meeting in Embu, accusing sections of the media of failing to adequately report the incident.
Kaluma questioned why KTN News and The Standard newspaper had not conducted what he described as an expose into the Saturday confrontation.
Kaluma claimed that supporters linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were responsible for attacking the meeting, referring to them as “Gachagua goons.” He further alleged that the violence had resulted in multiple deaths and vehicles being set ablaze.
“Why haven’t Gedion Moi’s biased, and bankrupt gutter-press KTN News and the Standard newspaper done an expose’ on the attack of DP Kindiki’s meeting by Gachagua goons,” Kaluma said.
The MP also claimed that people had been killed and that bodies were being recovered from bushes and vehicles following the confrontation.
However, the casualty claims made by Kaluma could not immediately be independently established. The National Police Service had earlier confirmed one death, several injuries and the burning of six vehicles during the incident.
The violence erupted at Nembure Grounds in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, where Kindiki was addressing UDA grassroots officials. Police said officers intervened after a group attempted to breach the meeting, with several suspects subsequently arrested.
Kindiki was evacuated from the venue as tensions escalated, while reports indicated that some attendees encountered difficulties leaving the area after the confrontation.
Kaluma's statement also contained a demand directed at Gachagua, calling for the former deputy president to be deported by the United States, arrested upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and prosecuted.
“Crooked Gachagua MUST be deported by the USA government, arrested at JKIA on arrival, prosecuted and imprisoned for life at Kamiti Maximum Prison,” he said.
Gachagua has not, in the information cited above, been established by authorities as responsible for organising the violence. The allegations therefore remain political claims pending investigations.
The Embu incident has intensified political debate as parties and leaders increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with renewed concerns over political mobilisation, violence and accountability.
