Zawadi Nyong’o, daughter of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, has marked four years of marriage to her wife with a heartfelt message celebrating their relationship and the challenges they have overcome together.

Zawadi, who has publicly identified as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, shared an emotional tribute to her wife as the couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary.

In the message, Zawadi described her wife as her “ride or die” and best friend, expressing gratitude for the support she has received throughout their marriage.

“Habibi! I love you so much. Thank you for being my wife - my ride or die, my bob, my best friend,” Zawadi wrote.

She went on to acknowledge the difficulties they have faced as a couple, thanking her wife for remaining steadfast during challenging moments and continuing to believe in their relationship.

“Thank you for standing still in the storm and for believing in me and us through it all,” she added.

Zawadi said she felt fortunate to share her life with her wife, emphasising the appreciation and affection that has characterised their four years together.

“I’m so lucky to walk through life with you. I see you. I appreciate you. I love you,” she said.

The anniversary message comes after Zawadi publicly opened up about her relationship and family life, attracting attention because of her connection to one of Kenya’s prominent political families.

Zawadi is the daughter of Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Dorothy Nyong’o and the elder sister of Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. She has largely built her own public profile through work in communications, activism, women's rights and wellness.

Her public disclosure about her sexuality in 2025 generated considerable discussion on social media, particularly because of her prominent family background. She has since continued to share aspects of her personal journey and relationship with her wife.

The couple reportedly got married on August 8, 2022, meaning their four-year anniversary falls in August 2026.

Unlike her father and sister, who are prominent public figures in Kenyan politics and entertainment respectively, Zawadi has generally maintained a career focused on social impact, digital communications and advocacy.

Her latest anniversary message offered a glimpse into a more personal side of her life, with Zawadi choosing to focus on companionship, resilience and gratitude as she marked another milestone in her marriage.

The public celebration also highlights the growing visibility of LGBTQ+ relationships in Kenya, where same-sex relationships remain a sensitive and contested subject socially and legally.

Zawadi's decision to publicly celebrate her marriage has continued to attract attention because of her family's prominence and her willingness to discuss her personal life openly.
