Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has declared a political “ceasefire” with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna after attending the Linda Mwananchi rally at Shianda Market in Kakamega County on Sunday.

Salasya, who was accompanied by Sifuna during the rally, said the event demonstrated political tolerance and maturity, noting that he was pleased to participate without being subjected to personal attacks.

In a statement following the rally, the outspoken legislator said no one attacked him and organisers did not allow speakers to use the microphone to make personal remarks against him.

Salasya appeared to reference previous political exchanges in which he has been subjected to personal criticism, including remarks questioning his mental health.

“I am pleased that no one attacked me, nor was anyone given an opportunity to use the microphone to make the usual personal remarks or label me a psychiatric patient,” Salasya said.

The Mumias East MP also welcomed an invitation extended by Governor George Natembeya to join the Linda Mwananchi political team and take up the number seven position.

Salasya said he appreciated the gesture and would take it in good faith, signalling a possible shift towards greater cooperation among leaders involved in the emerging political formation.

He further extended an olive branch to Sifuna, giving the Nairobi senator the green light to pursue his political ambitions.

“In the spirit of unity, I therefore call for a ceasefire and give Senator Edwin Sifuna the green light to pursue his political ambitions, whether for the presidency or any other position he may aspire to,” Salasya stated.

The remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders from Western Kenya and other regions exploring new alliances and political formations.

Salasya said he would also reach out to the Linda Mwananchi team to pursue a “handshake”, arguing that political differences should not prevent leaders from working towards shared interests.

He described himself, Sifuna and other leaders as part of “Team Wantam."

Salasya called on politicians to embrace dialogue, mutual respect and political tolerance as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
