Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued fresh claims on the killing of Dr Victoria Mutiso, linking her death to a high-value land dispute and alleging attempts to conceal the truth.
Speaking publicly, Gachagua claimed the slain mental health expert was targeted over a contested property allegedly worth Sh1.5 billion.
According to him, individuals who had “stolen her land” planned to dispose of it, making her an obstacle.
“Dr Victoria Mutiso was killed because there were people who had stolen her land and wanted to sell it for Ksh.1.5 billion. That was the motive,” he said.
He further alleged that Kikuyu Police Station is “a crime scene,” suggesting possible interference or misconduct within law enforcement, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
Gachagua also framed his remarks within a broader political context, stating: “Mimi, kazi yangu sasa ni kuwaambia Wakenya ukweli na kutangaza Ruto mapema,” indicating his intention to publicly speak out and politically challenge President William Ruto.
His statement comes as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding Dr Mutiso’s fatal shooting in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on July 29.
Official findings from detectives have pointed to a long-running land dispute in Athi River as a possible motive, with the victim reportedly having placed legal restrictions on a contested parcel.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has already arrested several suspects, including individuals linked to the planning and execution of the killing.
Authorities have also indicated involvement of police officers, with a firearm believed to have been used in the attack recovered during the probe.
However, Gachagua’s assertions introduce a more politically charged dimension to the case, raising questions about the scale of the alleged land deal and the possible involvement of influential actors.
