Gachagua in Emurua Dikirr: Late Johana Ngeno’s PA Reveals Hidden Political Calculations

Former personal assistant to late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, GK Kechwo, has weighed in on the relationship between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the late legislator as Gachagua visits the constituency.

Gachagua travelled to Emurua Dikirr on Friday, August 21, where he visited Ng’eno’s family and paid tribute at the late MP’s gravesite.

The visit has attracted political attention, particularly because of the friendship that existed between the two politicians.

However, Kechwo has disputed suggestions that Ng’eno would have supported Gachagua’s political ambitions in the 2027 General Election had he remained alive.

According to Kechwo, Ng’eno and Gachagua were friends, but their political calculations were different.

“Ngong and Gachagua were friends. But it is wrong to say Ngong would have supported Gachagua in 2027. Very wrong,” Kechwo stated.

He claimed Ng’eno’s political strategy was centred on ensuring President William Ruto secured another term before eventually stepping aside from the Kalenjin political leadership.

“In Ngong's calculation, he wanted William Ruto to win in 2027 and exit the stage, most importantly the Kalenjin throne. He would then take over,” Kechwo said.

Kechwo also addressed Ng’eno’s decision to support the impeachment of Gachagua, despite their friendship. He said the former MP viewed the political situation as a difficult sacrifice necessary to preserve his wider political ambitions.

“One time he likened the situation in which God tested Abraham to have his son Isaac as a sacrifice,” Kechwo recalled.

He said Ng’eno allegedly told him: “God (William Ruto) gave us (me) Isaac (Riggy G), I didn't know him before, I love him but since the one who gave me now wants him as sacrifice, I will sacrifice him.”

According to Kechwo, Ng’eno could eventually have supported Gachagua, but at a later stage.

“Ngong would have supported Gachagua, actually deputize him, but in a future date, 2032,” he said.

Kechwo further argued that Gachagua’s current visit to Emurua Dikirr would probably not have happened had Ng’eno been alive.

“If Ngong was alive, Rigathi Gachagua would not have stepped in Dikirr soil, not because anyone would have prevented him, but because he would not have seen the need to organize such a visit,” he said.

He also criticised those linking the visit to Ng’eno’s family, arguing that some of those involved did not share the late MP’s political vision.

Kechwo urged organisers to allow Ng’eno’s mother to receive visitors without reopening painful memories surrounding her son’s death.

“I strongly believe we can let batiem welcome visitors without reminding her on the unfortunate death of her beloved son,” he said, adding that Charles Sunkuli could serve as an example of how such visits could be handled.

Gachagua’s Emurua Dikirr visit comes as his Democracy for the Citizens Party seeks to expand its political influence ahead of the 2027 elections, making his appearance in the constituency politically significant.
