Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched fresh attacks on the police leadership, accusing them of orchestrating a cover-up ahead of a scheduled briefing on the killing of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), under the National Police Service, has invited the media to a press conference on Friday, August 7, 2026, at its headquarters in Mazingira Complex, Nairobi.
The briefing is expected to provide updates on the progress of investigations into the fatal shooting.
However, Gachagua has dismissed the planned address, alleging it is designed to shield police officers linked to the killing.
The DCP leader accused the DCI of preparing to shift blame onto boda boda riders instead of pursuing what he described as “police killers.”
“I have seen you have called a press conference to cover up the police killers of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso and then fix some boda boda riders,” he said, directly addressing Inspector General Douglas Kanja.
Gachagua further claimed he possesses the identities of three officers allegedly involved in the killing, stating they are attached to Kikuyu Police Station and Karinde Police Post.
He warned that the names would be made public if authorities failed to disclose them during the briefing.
“You must name the inspector from Kikuyu Police Station, the constable from the same station and another constable from Karinde police post,” he added.
The former deputy president also alleged the existence of an internal police unit, which he referred to as a “killer squad,” accusing senior officers of transferring members out of Nairobi to suppress evidence.
He urged that such officers be allowed to attend the press briefing and disclose those behind alleged extrajudicial operations.
