Fresh details emerging from court proceedings and public discourse around the murder of university student Sharon Otieno have shed new light on her relationship with former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, including why the affair never culminated in marriage.
Obado admitted in court that he was in a romantic relationship with Sharon, describing it as an “open secret.”
The affair resulted in a pregnancy, placing the relationship under intense scrutiny both within his family and the public sphere.
However, underlying complexities appear to have influenced the governor’s reluctance to formalise the union as a second marriage.
According to accounts circulating during the trial and among Migori residents, Sharon had previously been married and had two children from that earlier relationship.
It is further claimed that her former husband supported her education, including her university studies, where she later met Obado.
