Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko has spoken publicly following the conviction of former governor Okoth Obado in the 2018 murder of Sharon Otieno, describing the development as a painful moment for those involved.
In a statement shared hours after the High Court ruling, Ayacko confirmed he had received news of the conviction with sadness, noting that the judgment also affected co-accused Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.
“I have learnt with deep sadness of the conviction of my predecessor, the former Governor of Migori County, H.E. Okoth Obado, alongside his co-accused, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero,” Ayacko said.
He added that the outcome marked a difficult period not just for those convicted but also for their families, who now have to deal with the consequences of the judgment.
“This is a painful moment for all of us and a deeply difficult time for the families of the accused, who must now confront the weight of this judgment and its consequences,” he stated.
Focus on families
The governor extended his message to all families affected by the case, including that of the victim, acknowledging the emotional toll of the long-running trial.
“At this moment, I wish to extend my thoughts and prayers to all the families affected by this tragedy. May God grant them strength, comfort and peace,” he said.
Ayacko also addressed the families of the convicted individuals directly, urging resilience during the period following the court’s decision.
“I pray for the families of H.E. Governor Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, that God may give them strength, grace and courage during this difficult period,” he added.
Call for reflection
He concluded his statement with a broader message of consolation to all those affected.
“May God comfort all those affected and grant them peace.”
The remarks come after the High Court found Obado and his co-accused guilty of murder, bringing to a close a case that has drawn national attention since 2018. Sentencing is expected in the coming days.
