Political analyst Kipkalya Kones has dismissed allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is secretly funding the Linda Mwananchi movement, describing the claims as politically driven and unsupported by evidence.

The allegations, raised by some Kenya Kwanza leaders, suggest Uhuru is backing opposition-linked groups including Linda Mwananchi.

Kones argues the narrative is being repeatedly pushed to shape public perception and link Uhuru to emerging political movements ahead of the 2027 elections.

He says the strategy relies on repetition rather than verified facts.

He also notes that several political and public figures are frequently mentioned in connection with Linda Mwananchi, including Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Pauline Njoroge, and activist Charity Waweru.

According to him, the pattern is meant to frame the movement within familiar political divisions rather than its stated citizen-driven agenda.

Kones says Linda Mwananchi’s growing support across regions has unsettled some political actors who prefer traditional, identity-based mobilisation.

He argues this has contributed to attempts to link it to established political names.

The debate has grown after continued claims from Kenya Kwanza leaders that Uhuru remains politically active and involved in shaping opposition politics.

However, no financial records or evidence have been presented to back the claims.

Opposition leaders have denied any external funding. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has said the movement is financed through contributions from supporters and operates independently.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has also defended it, calling it a citizen-led platform focused on public issues.

Kones says the accusations reflect broader political concerns about shifting voter dynamics, particularly in regions where Uhuru Kenyatta still holds influence.

He warns that repeated unverified claims risk distracting from substantive political debate.

He also points to Kenya’s history of ethnic-based political mobilisation, noting that attempts to frame new movements along such lines can deepen divisions.

According to him, modern political engagement is increasingly shaped by digital platforms and youth participation that cuts across traditional boundaries.

On Uhuru Kenyatta specifically, Kones maintains there is no verified evidence linking him to funding Linda Mwananchi.

He adds that while private individuals, including former presidents, are free to support causes of their choice, no indication has emerged that Uhuru has done so in this case.
