A woman whose body was discovered in a trench between Zimmerman and Githurai 44 in Nairobi has been identified as Lorine Okore, with new details indicating she may have been swept away by floodwaters following heavy rains in the city.
The body was recovered earlier this week in the Roysambu area after residents alerted authorities. Witnesses at the scene reported that the woman’s phone was found intact, tucked inside her trouser pocket, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Preliminary accounts suggest the victim could have been carried away by fast-moving floodwaters that have recently caused widespread disruption across parts of Nairobi.
Police officer and philanthropist Sam Ondimu Ngare confirmed the identity of the deceased through a condolence message, revealing that Lorine had previously worked at ExpressWay Lounge.
“It is with deep sadness that we have received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Lorine, who once served as one of our hostesses at ExpressWay Lounge,” Ngare said in a statement.
He noted that Lorine had been part of the establishment’s team last year before leaving to pursue other opportunities, describing her sudden death as shocking and deeply painful to those who knew her.
“Her sudden passing has left us shocked and deeply saddened. On behalf of the management, staff, and friends of ExpressWay Lounge, we send our sincere condolences to her family, relatives, and friends during this painful moment,” he added.
Ngare also used the moment to reflect on the unpredictability of life, urging members of the public to value relationships and support one another during difficult times.
“Life is truly unpredictable. Let us continue to love one another, support each other, and value every moment we have together,” he said.
Authorities have not yet issued a comprehensive report on the cause of death, but ongoing investigations are expected to establish whether the incident was purely accidental or if other factors may have been involved.
The incident comes amid heavy rains that have triggered flooding in several parts of Nairobi, leading to fatalities, displacement, and damage to infrastructure.
Residents in low-lying areas have been particularly affected, with drainage systems overwhelmed by the volume of water.
